Why Invest in Stocks?

June 21, 2016

9277843 - close up view of blue compass and newspaperOwning stocks can be fun and profitable

When you invest in a public company you actually become an owner.

Being part owner of a public company can offer you great rewards. You do not have to carry the responsibility of running the company but have the potential opportunity of financial gains.

First, you need the desire to own a stock and then you need to discover which stock(s) you want to own.

You may discover a stock through a decision with a coworker, hearing it mentioned on TV, Radio, or the internet or through reading about it in a magazine or newspaper.  It doesn’t matter how you hear about — rather, it’s about what you ultimately decide to do with the information.

WAIT, you do not want to buy anything without understanding what you are buying?

Which stock(s) to choose

You need to educate yourself about the company(s) which have grabbed your attention.

Here is an over view of the process I use.

I read all kinds of business magazines and newspapers.  A few of them are: Forbes, Inc, Wired, Success, Wall Street Journal, USA today, LA Times, NY Times.

When I notice a stock I write it down with a few notes about what caught my attention. I then take this list after I have a few written down and go online to the companies’ website and read about them. Information that is particularly valuable would be: their annual reports, past news releases, and financials.

After doing some research my list will shrink based on discovering variables which I do not like.

Once I like a company I look further into the industry they are in as well as how the economic and political environment could affect them.

I find this process enlightening, interesting, and very gratifying.

After I have whittled down my stock selection to one or two stocks I will purchase them knowing there is no guarantee the stock(s) will perform as I foresee.  Making an educated decision and not a reactionary one gives me comfort, and is a sound strategy.

If you desire to prosper but do not have the interest or time to become knowledge about companies then…
