Life is full of challenges. It is not the challenge as much as it is how one deals with the challenges.
When I was young, I was ill more than I was well. But during the good times, I loved to run, jump, play, and enjoy life. It was in my youth that I read about the power of one’s mind. I would not understand for a long time that the seeds had been planted to lead me out of a life of despair to a future one of adventure, love, and interest in others.
I recall during one hospitalization a priest stopped by to talk to me and he seemed so concerned. I explained I’d had surgery, but I would be fine. Later a nurse told me that the priest stopped by because he thought I was dying. I must have looked rather gloomy.
Being sickly and having surgery had become part of my life. I was used to it until the day I said enough was enough I needed to stop dying and start living.
By my mid-thirties I had gone downhill with my marriage, my health, and desire to live.
Until the day I woke up, looked at myself in the mirror and stated, “Either I change my thinking, or I will be dead in a year.”
I found myself at the bookstore. I stopped by the self-help section (in the early 1990’s it had 20 or so books). That was when my life began to change. I could not stop reading about the POWER WITHIN OUR MINDS. To this day I read self-help – EVERYDAY.
I was a divorced, high school educated, mother of 3 children. They never asked to be born. It was my responsibility to protect and care for my children. I had a major reason to live and I was going to become a person of value.
I stopped feeling sorry for my self and began to be accountable.
My life took a large turn and I moved from being a secretary to owning my own investment company, giving my children every opportunity, I could, and expanded my knowledge and opportunities.
Life is a challenge, but it is up to each one of us to decide whether we are going to lead a life or allow life to lead us. The choice is ours to make.
